Lunch & Learn: Why are Health & Wellness Important to the Design Community?

  • Wednesday, February 14, 2018
  • 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM
  • DPR Construction, 5010 Shoreham Place, San Diego, CA 92122

Join us for a Valentine's Day lunch and learn about principles of the WELL framework.

The built environment has a huge impact on climate goals producing 40% of CO2 emissions but also on our health and well being. Americans spend 90% of their daily lives indoors, which means that designers, architects, and builders have an opportunity to create a positive impact in this area.

To support this connection between human well being and build environment The International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) launched a WELL Building Certification system to promote a more in-depth understanding of building performance metrics, thresholds that support our health, well being and happiness. Similar to what LEED has achieved for the environmental performance, WELL is striving to move the needle on healthy buildings and communities.

Our speaker Steven Shinn, AIA, LEED AP BD&C, WELL AP, is a Senior Associate at Gensler office here in San Diego. Steven is an experienced speaker and designer in areas of WELL, health and well being. Gensler's Downtown office retrofit is San Diego's first space to pursue WELL certification.
