Nonresidential Standards for Architects

This FREE hands-on course is designed to provide architects with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate key nonresidential Title 24 Part 6 building standards and compliance options for new construction, alterations and additions for envelope building design. Participants will receive guidance on how and when to integrate code compliance tasks into their project schedule; collaboration methods for the project team to develop a design that increases energy efficiency; and improving the Architect’s energy literacy to design aesthetically beautiful buildings that use less energy.


  • Identify major differences between the 2013 and 2016 California Nonresidential Building Energy Efficiency Standards (Title 24 Part 6) for the building envelope and commissioning requirements
  • Navigate a compliance process map from project inception to completion of construction through use if an integrated design process
  • Identify mandatory and prescriptive requirements for nonresidential envelope building features and commissioning, and when the performance approach for new construction, additions, and alterations may be desirable
  • Identify the primary energy compliance forms and related documents typically under the responsibility of the Architect
  • Apply envelope and commissioning Title 24 Part 6 requirements to example scenario


Gina Rodda has been involved with California Title 24 energy compliance since 1991. She currently works for Gabel Associates, LLC in Berkeley providing residential and nonresidential calculations and support for CA Title 24 Energy, Savings by Design, CA Multi Family Homes, Build it Green and LEED EA submittals. She is certified as a CEA and CEPE in both residential and nonresidential, in addition to being a LEED AP. She graduated from UOP in Stockton with BA in 1989.
