In this hands-on course, Plans Examiners and Building Inspectors will gain the knowledge and skills needed to more quickly and effectively enforce the energy code for nonresidential projects. Learn how to incorporate this knowledge of the standards into typical job tasks.


  • Understand the 2016 building energy efficiency standards for nonresidential new construction, additions, and alternations
  • Understand the purpose of each of the nonresidential compliance forms and related documents
  • Effectively communicate energy efficiency compliance options and requirements to builders and clients

Bruce Cheney is a U.S. Navy veteran with over 20 years of professional experience in the field of Building Science. He is certified in Home Energy Rating System (HERS & HERS II) and holds additional certifications from the Building Performance Institute as a Building Analyst, Building Envelope and Multifamily Professional. Bruce is a recognized proctor and trainer in the construction industry on implementing new Title 24 Residential and Nonresidential Energy Efficiency Standards. His company, Anchors Aweigh Energy, is a Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business in San Diego.
